At Seattle Sailing Club, we are far too familiar with the difficulties in finding the right size Dubarry shoes and boots. We've created this guide in hopes to make your purchase easier. As you can see above, choosing the right size depends on the style and sometimes even the material of the shoe/boot. Below are some tips about each of the Dubarry styles we carry in our Pro Shop and online.
A word of advice: Almost all Dubarry Yachting Shoes & Boots are made from leather. The first time you wear them they will most likely feel a little tight because the leather has not been worn in. After a few wears, the leather will begin to mold to the shape of your foot and the shoes will become much more comfortable.
Ultima Yachting Boots tend to run about a half-full size small. Scott, our club manager usually wears a US 10.5-11 and his Ultimas are a UK 10.5 (US 11).
Ultima Boots run a little narrow, but most people feel they are still comfortable. If your foot is wider than normal, Dubarry makes an Ultima Extra-Fit which is wider around the calf and has a wider space for your foot. We take special orders for Ultima Extra-Fits. They come in the Leather Brown color and UK 7-11, 12, and 13. To inquire about a pair, please call us at (206)782-5100.
Newport Yachting Boots run about a size small. You'll know right away if they are too small if your heel gets stuck above the heel area.
Newport Boots have a removable insole. If the insole doesn't feel right, try removing the insole and adding your own. This should make the boot fit more comfortably.
Newport Boots fit closely around your calf. Since they are built to be a performance boot (lightweight, active design, more of a fitted style) the neoprene around the calf is a tighter than on the Ultima.
Regatta Deck Shoes come in a wide version. Regattas typically fit perfectly in width and length, but those who have usually buy wider shoes may want to go with the Regatta Extra-Fit. They come in Donkey Brown sizes EU 40-48. To inquire about a pair, please call us at (206)782-5100.
Yacht Deck Shoes also run a little narrow. These shoes are made of leather that will stretch to fit your foot perfectly. Our Yacht owners have found when they first put them on they are a bit snug, but after a couple wears they fit perfectly.
Helmsman Deck Shoe (not listed above):
Helmsman Deck Shoes are a normal width. Length wise, these shoes fit very similarly to the Regatta.
Lahinch Aquasports are very narrow. Due to their style and purpose, these shoes run narrow, but true to length size. When you first put the shoes on they feel snug, but after walking around (just in the Pro Shop), you'll feel how comfortable the "snug" feeling actually feels.
Crete Deck Shoes run about a size and a half smaller than usual. Sizing depends a lot on the length of your longest toe. Jennie has longer toes, which makes a size EU 41 much more comfortable than a EU 39 or EU 40.
Menorca Deck Shoes run narrow in the colors: Cafe and Red Nubuck. The Oyster color fits comfortably right off the bat, but the nubuck colors tend to need more time to break in. Don't let the narrowness stop you from purchasing the color of your choice. If you can withstand some tightness around your foot for a couple wears, these shoes will break in to fit your foot unbelievably well.
